The usefullness of Gmail

Have you ever had the hassle of not wanting to give out your direct email address as worried about spam?
I found a little trick recently with Gmail that has become really useful!

It turns out that you can insert a '+' after your username in gmail addresses and write whatever you want.

So for example, I'm selling some ice axes on Craigslist (which I am ;) - I gave out the address 'neal.mcquaid+iceaxes' at gmail.com
Neat eh?
It turns out all addresses after your username are registered to you.

O.k., so it's not going to stop spam (although you could put a filter in after getting a lot from one of the addresses) but at least you'll know where it all started and you can arrange to spam him/her back (kidding, don't condone that part!)
