I'm writing this as I follow my first live chat discussion on Twitter. It's the hashtag #edchat and can be found here - tonights discussion is "keeping up with technology". It's fascinating, I'm watching my first live global discussion amongst educators and I'm truly blown away by it. So much enthusiasm for a subject, and I'm only seeing the tip of the iceberg here.
It actually was an ideal topic for me to be introduced to this method of communication. I've been on Twitter for a few years now but hadn't really gotten into it, probably as I see now that it's much better for a facilitator of communication amongst people with a hobby/passion/job, whereas Facebook suits those more who are friends. But this topic chat on Twitter also shows the struggle of this communication. How do you keep up with this flow of information? Obviously, you can only step in and out as time allows, but how can it be taken further to make it more useful? I'll have loads of thoughts floating around after this (even if it is 1am now), but what can I do to utilise them?
On top of that, there's also the actual topic itself? I'm keeping pace, but what can I do to transfer this to my peers, and also to my other colleagues? It's easy with my students, just show them and they'll throw themselves at it, but what is the magic method to influence management and admins? I've tried the softly softly method before but it takes a lonnng time so how is it possible to go about positive change in a quicker manner?
all ideas welcome! :) I'm taking notes of mine right now......
