I read this great quote through Treehugger's weekly email today: see full write-up here about changing our mindset in how we use appliances and devices to make more efficient use of them and charge them.
They were describing this in relation to a solar-powered computer mouse and having to "adjust habits....regularly charging the unit with daylight from the window". My closest experience to this was with my use of my Solio solar panel while traveling. It involved having to adjust my power needs so that I remembered to put the solar panel out in the sun everyday, and not only that, adjust my power usage habits so that I only used my power-hungry devices when I actually had access to power (not easy while in some locations of Thailand and Laos!).
In many ways we're all a bit inconsiderate when it comes to everything we have. All our electronics are left plugged in all night on standby as most of us (me included) aren't always of the habit of turning them off at the wall. I watched in crazy bemusement as one of my neighbors left his car running for over 40 minutes yesterday so that all the windows would defrost without him having to scrape the windows himself. See what I mean?
Has anyone else had experience with this sort of problem (although I'm sure all travelers will have been through this sort of problem!)
